Alice in Wonderland Quick Reviewby nmraymondWednesday, March 17, 2010 at 06:51 AM EDTAlice in Wonderland is not really a film adaptation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Nor would I really call it a sequel to the events of the original adventures in Wonderland. Combining elements, characters, and material from both Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, this film adaptation of Alice’s enchanting adventure takes place years after she fell down the rabbit hole. One of the biggest disappointments or twists about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and later the Disney film adaptation Alice in Wonderland was that everything that happened in Wonderland was merely a dream from a young girl’s mind. Keeping with the dream mentality, Alice does not believe she is in Wonderland when she falls down another rabbit hole. However, everything that happened during her first journey through Wonderland (Underland) was not a relentless dream that stayed with her through the years but memories so fanciful that logic dictated that they were mere figments of her imagination. Alice in Wonderland is a wonderful journey through a fanciful land, helping Alice learn that she must make decisions for herself, whether it is in Underland or above. Fall down the rabbit hole again, Alice in Wonderland made me smile and reminded me to read the original story once more. This article originally appeared on Gruesome Details. |
