Porsche Adds Option Packages to Boxster,
CaymanFriday, March 26, 2010 at 07:05 AM EDT
Porsche recently
added
four new “individualization†packages --
comfort, infotainment, design, and design sport -- to its European Boxster and
Cayman models
Although Porsches
are designed to be sports cars, the company strives to provide a considerable
amount of luxury. The comfort package for the Boxster and Cayman builds upon
this quest, and adds items like dynamic bi-xenon headlights, cruise control,
automatically dimming mirrors, and rain sensing wipers. The comfort package
for
the Boxster and Boxster S also includes a removable wind deflector. On both
Boxster models, the comfort package will retail for around
€2600 ($3500), while adding the package to a Cayman only adds
an extra $3200.
The infotainment package includes exactly what
you’d expect it to -- upgrades are focused on improving the
navigation, audio, and communications systems. Porsche Communications
Management is included, which itself includes navigation and an auxiliary
audio
input. Infortainment packages also include Porsche’s up-level
sound systems, which include a 185-watt, seven-speaker system on Boxsters and
a
more powerful 235-watt, nine-speaker system on Caymans. Bluetooth connectivity
is also included in the infotainment package, which will add around
€3100 ($4200) to the cost of either Boxster or Cayman
models.
Opting for the design package gives Boxster and Cayman
buyers the lightweight 19-inch black wheels previously exclusive to the
Boxster
Spyder. Exterior mirrors, exhaust tips, air intakes, model designation, and
interior trim pieces are also finished in a matching black hue, as are the
Boxster’s roll bars. The design package costs
€3800 ($5100) for the Boxster, €2600 ($3400)
for the Boxster S, €3600 ($4800) for the Cayman, and
€2300 ($3100) for the Cayman S.
Opting for the
design sport package includes all of the elements seen in the design package,
but includes a new front and rear lip spoilers. It adds a total of
€6700 ($9000) to the price of a Boxster and
€6500 ($8645) to a Cayman. Like the design package, it comes
in a little cheaper for the Boxster S and Cayman S models at
€5500 ($7300) and €5200 ($7000),
respectively.
