Poker on the Go Mobile Poker Applicationby JzeeFriday, April 02, 2010 at 06:47 AM EDTMe and my buddies at school take every opportunity we can get to play poker. We all love the game, and can’t get enough time to play. Between studying and classes, it’s always hard to get everyone together in the same place at the same time. When we do get a chance, we take it and play as much as we can. It’s not even about the money or gambling. With us it’s all about the game. We are all seriously competitive. If we weren’t we probably wouldn’t be at Harvard. It’s a well-known fact that this school is super-competitive and is not easy to get into. So it’s no surprise that our little poker group is pretty competitive. One day, one of my buddies was going on about how frustrating it is not having enough time to play any real games of poker. We both agreed that we wished there were some way to play, just us, on our mobile phones. I saw a gleam in my friend’s eyes as we ended our conversation and knew he was up to something. Cheesy Online Poker Rooms The thing was we had tried using some of the online rooms to play against each other on the Internet, but none of them were very much fun, or anything like a real poker game. Most of the sites were pretty cheesy and took forever to load on a computer, and on a phone they literally creeped along. A few weeks later I got a text message from my friend with the mischievous look. There was a link in the message, so I clicked on it. It was a fully interactive poker game that rocked. All of our friends were connected at the same time. There was chat, or voice chat enabled and the game play was awesome. My friend had done it, he came up with a way for us to play poker, real poker, on the go. Real Poker On the Go We spent the remainder of that school year playing poker with my friend’s application. We helped him tweak it and get it running good. When he finished all the fixes on the game, it was absolutely amazing. It provided a real poker experience that we all had a great time using. He even talked about hooking it up to PayPal or some other online banking service so that we could play for money. That summer while class was out of session, my computer programming friend was busy selling his idea. He got a few development companies very interested in his game and some of them started talking about serious money. It turned out that our little poker on the go idea was going to make some serious cash. My friend has promised to cut us all in on whatever he makes from the application; we’ll have to see how that goes. The coolest thing, besides the game itself, was the fact that my friend saw a legitimate desire, used his skills and creativity and built something that totally rocks. I am sure that he is going places with his software development in the future. I hope that I can use my love for poker to come up with something to make some real money with some day. In the meantime, I’ll keep on studying and working toward my degree and see what cards get dealt to me in the future. This article originally appeared on Another Harvard Blog. |
