Super Godzilla: Nissan GT-R Spec M Taking
ShapeWednesday, April 07, 2010 at 06:47 AM EDT
When we first drove the Nissan
GT-R way back in 2008, chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno said his Godzilla
was just the start of a supercar evolution the likes of which Japan had never
seen. It looks as though he's making good on that boast. After launching the
limited edition $150,000 GT-R
Spec V in 2009, he is turning his attention to an even more radical Spec
M.
Expected to wear a sticker price of
around $210,000 when it goes on sale in December of this year, the Spec M will
be offered to most of its main international markets. But you better get those
orders in quick, because Nissan is reportedly only building 30 of these
cars.
Why so few? Nissan plans to elevate the GT-R's interior to
the
next level and basically hand-build the special cabin using high-grade leather
and Alcantara trim in three colors. The dash will get a generous helping of
carbon fiber including the steering wheel and gear shifter, which will be
colored in a new bronze chrome treatment.
The exterior of the
car will also receive three coats of a higher grade paint (than the Spec V)
with the main color expected to be a white hue.
As far as
performance upgrades go, the Spec M will inherit many of the Spec V's
revisions, including 15 extra horsepower over the stock GT-R.
The
Spec M will also be fitted with the Spec V's carbon ceramic six-piston Brembos
as well as an extra cooling duct mounted into the airdam to feed the oil
cooler, a revised rear suspension geometry designed for greater stability,
modified gear ratios for quicker shifts, and lightweight aluminum wheels.
It will also get a specially colored engine cover and detailing on the
grille and rear diffuser to further distinguish it from the Spec V.
