Right Wing Happy That the Olympics Is to Be Held in Rio

What is the surprise? Of course they are happy, anything that the country does that moves us in a direction that might employ people, and bring money to communities means that they would be losing votes in the next election. It could not be any more simple to understand that this. If health care fails, more votes for them, if the economy languishes, we all know what happens to whoever is in power if the economy is in trouble.

Some on the right are calling the current administration an outright evil, and are talking about “taking the country back.” as if it was stolen from them. They have no interest in discussion, compromise, of even logic. They are running with things like the tea-party protesters, anyone and everyone who is insane and hates the new president is a friend to them. Sure, it might come back to bite them on the ass, but what have they got to lose? They need crazy people right now, as sane people might actually listen to both sides of an issue, and not watch ONLY Fox News. The GOP has made a conscious decision to go with whatever lunacy grabs headlines, it doesn’t matter if it is based in reality at all. In fact, if the more rabid Fox viewers completely discard reality, all the better for the GOP.

So congratulations GOP, it should be interesting to see how long you can control the monster you are currently counting on to get you news coverage. Watching Glenn Beck, he talked about the debt that countries can go into when the host the Olympics. And then he added the some Olympics make “a few hundred million” in profits, but really, who needs those jobs and profits. Certainly not us.

Would the Olympics being held in Chicago been a good thing? That is hard to know, but what is impossible to miss is how in fashion it is now to be against your own country, even though of course we are still fighting wars. Remember how bad that used to be, to say anything bad about your own country while soldiers were dying? Well, they must not be dying any longer, otherwise Fox News and so many of their viewers would be some of the ugliest hypocrites you could possibly imagine.

I guess attacking your own country during a time of war is a matter of convenience to some. While I had thought that the diversion into Iraq was a terrible mistake from the minute it was announced, we all know how the right wing treated anyone that dared to point out what a mistake that was going to be. Now we all know about torture, arresting and spying on our own citizens, and a number of other little things the previous administration decided it would be OK to do, and all the while, anyone that raised a voice against any of those things was labeled a traitor that wanted the terrorists to win.

So by their own logic, the right wing now wants the terrorists to win since they keep attacking our own administration on multiple issues, and jumping for joy any time the new administration fails at anything. Those traitors.
