Poll: Pot Proposition Leads in California

California's Proposition 19, which would legalize, tax and regulate marijuana for adults over 21 years old, is currently winning by a wide margin, according to a new PPP poll. The measure is supported by 52% of voters while opposed by only 36%. It has 62% support among Democrats, 55% among independents and 37% among Republicans.

Plan Made for National Academic Standards

A new state-led effort to set national academic standards is gaining momentum. The new Common Core Standards benchmarks set standards for use by all states to create cross-border consistency in what students are be expected to know. So far 26 states have signed on to the national Common Core Standards while several have opted not to use the standards.

Student Sues, Won't Affirm Gays

A lawsuit against Augusta State University in Georgia claims that school officials gave a graduate student in counseling the choice of giving up her Christian beliefs or being expelled from the graduate program. "If I ever may have a client who wants me to affirm their decision to have an abortion or engage in gay, lesbian or transgender behavior ... I can't alter my biblical beliefs," student Jen Keeton, 24, emailed the faculty.

A Beavercreek, Ore., couple who left their infant daughter's fate to God rather than seek medical treatment for a mass growing over her left eye will face charges of first-degree criminal mistreatment. Timothy and Rebecca Wyland let their seven-month-old daughter Alayna go untreated for a hemangioma, a fast-growing mass of blood vessels that can be treated surgically.
