Paul: Social Security is a Tax
Ron Paul: The new congress comes to Capitol Hill with a mandate to end profligate spending and restore fiscal sanity, we are told. But when the House and Senate convene in January, the newly elected members will face tremendous pressure to maintain spending levels for entitlement programs. Even the most modest proposals to trim Social Security or Medicare spending will be met with howls of indignation and threats of voter revolt. Legislators who propose any kind of means testing or increased retirement ages can expect angry visits from senior citizen lobbyists ready to fund a candidate back home who supports the status quo.

"In the 1970s, pedophilia was theorised as something fully in conformity with man and even with children," the Pope said. "It was maintained -- even within the realm of Catholic theology -- that there is no such thing as evil in itself or good in itself. There is only a 'better than' and a 'worse than'. Nothing is good or bad in itself."

GOP Chair Wants Higher Taxes for Poor
Incoming House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) wants Congress to make things harder on the poor. Camp regards the fact that 46.7 million lower- and middle-income Americans pay no income tax -- giving them no incentive to restrain the growth of government. "I believe, you've got to have some responsibility for the government you have," Camp said. People have co-payments under Medicare, and everyone should similarly have some "skin in the game" under the income tax system, he said.
