Charities To Get Donations Illegally Funneled To Bush

Tom Noe, the leading figure in Ohio's disgraceful "coingate" fiasco, has also been convicted of illegal campaign contributions to George Bush. Now the national Republican committee says the illegal funds will be donated "to charity" (emphasis added):

Republicans say donations that a former Toledo-area coin dealer funneled to President Bush's re-election campaign will be given to charity.

A spokesman for the Republican National Committee (RNC) says that will be the case as long as there aren't other directions from authorities.

He says it isn't clear which charity will receive the money. Tom Noe has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for the scheme.

Prosecutors say he gave more than $45,000 to 24 friends and associates.

They made the donations in their names so Noe could skirt the $2,000 limit on individual contributions.

Authorities say the Bush campaign was unaware of Noe's scheme.

They've already donated $6,000 from Noe and his wife to charity.

You know, you can call me cynical but...we better keep an eye on these guys and their coming donations. Several of Tom DeLay's little financial schemes were hidden in the bowels of "charities."  Wouldn't that be the ultimate slap in the face of decency: take funds illegally donated by a major league sleaze, and redirect them to "charities" serving another major league sleaze, and call it a solution.
