Gee, do you think there might be a connection?

Every time I see a bizarre smear attack on a political candidate, I look for the corresponding news story that probably produce the panic which led to the smear.

Do you see any connections between these two pairs of headlines?

1.  MONTANA

A. Tester widens lead over Burns in new poll

        and

B. Burns: [President has plan for winning, but won't tell what it is

2. Ohio

A. Democrat leads in Ohio governor's race

       and

B. Governor's race turns ugly--Blackwell campaign links Strickland to predators, hints he's gay

I'm especially fond of the Burns claim that Bush has a secret Iraq plan.  Sounds so much like the rumored Nixon secret plan for Viet Nam.  Not to mention its similarity to the claim that the NSA warrantless surveillance is never used to spy on ordinary citizens, but they can't let us see any evidence of that.  And, of course, not to mention the similarity to Catch 22.

Personally, I think everyone should vote for me for president.  I have a plan to end all terrorism, without firing a single shot.  I just wish I could tell you about it.
