The blog Outrageous Moderates has obtained redacted copies of notes taken by DoD staffer Stephen Cambone during meetings with Rumseld on 9-11-01.

The blog has copies available, in several formats, and the notes have been the subject of a story in the UK's Guardian newspaper.

Not surprisingly, the handwritten notes indicate that Rumsfeld was already interested in trying to turn 9-11's disaster into a reason to remove Saddam.

Among the notes:

  1. "Hard to get good case. Need to move swiftly. Near term target needs - go massive - sweep it all up, things related and not."

  2.  "Best info fast. Judge whether good enough [to] hit SH at same time - not only UBL [meaning Usama bin Laden]."

So lets see how little stiry this causes among our somnabulist citizenry and uninterested journalists.
