Amazing Photo of DresdenSunday, April 11, 2010 at 07:15 AM EDT
Wow!I usually try not to stray from the main topic of this blog, but this
is
a must see for all my readers, I believe. On the following website you
may see an interactive snapshot of the town of Dresden, Germany.
It is billed as the largest picture in the world today with a
resolution of 297,500 x 87,500 pixels or 26 gigapixels (that's 26,000
megapixels if you compare it with your own camera's megapixel count).
It consists of 1,665 full format pictures with 21.4 megapixels, which was
recorded by a photo-robot in 172 minutes. Conversion of the 102GB Raw data by
a
computer with a main memory cache of 48 GB and 16 processors took 4 days.
The photo was taken on the roof of the building "Haus der Presse" and
starts
at the left side with the Ostragehege. It was made with the Canon EOS 5D mark
II and a 400mm-lens.
I will post no image with this post so as not to spoil the suprise.
