Aw, gee! Let's have some pity for Dubya, shall we?

Poor Resident Bush. Seems he was the victim of a pretty humiliating set of vicous stuff courtesy of Comedy Central's own Stephen Colbert, and it seems, why, golly, he got mad about it!...

Scott McClellan: the president on leaks, taxes and gas

Proving that you don't stop being a shill just because your time on the job is getting very short, Scott McClellan parried several questions on leaks in today's press briefing at the White House.

Public service announcement on disaster preparedness

As a public service to WTW readers, here are DHS "Preparedness Tips" numbers 12 & 13, my comments in brackets:

Right wing disinformation campaign rolls on with Rumsfeld

Iraq?  Doing swell, thanks for asking.

The economy? Burning up, thanks for asking.

How can people believe that?  It's the disinfo campaign, and thanks for asking.

Through the memory hole with Rumsfeld

Some stammering, stuttering performances are worth a calling to mind again after they fade from memory.  Witness this excerpt from the March 14, 2004 Face the Nation appearance by the one and only Donald Rumsfeld.

Good Buchanan, Bad Buchanan. Sometimes it's hard to believe the same guy said both things

Pat Buchanan can say some of the dumbest things in the world, followed in short order by something very articulate and insightful.  I used to think that which Pat you got depended on whether he was thinking with his brain or his bible.  But this food Pat-bad Pat example doesn't seem to have anything to do with the bible.

I think the devil makes them do it--Evangelical rantings and scheming:

I'm not a big fan of proselytizing evangelicals who think God is a corporeal presence hiding just out of sight and ready to swing his Godly sword down on the heads of all who do not believe as the evangelicals believe.  In fact, evangelical Christians of that stripe seem to me more representative of evil than divine good.  And every day they do something else to reinforce that opinion.

Iraq, Kurdistan, Turkey, Iran--Let the conflagration begin?

Major fears about the virtually autonomous Kurdish region in Iraq have been:

Kurdish rebels from Turkey and/or Iran will use it as a safe haven in their war with Turkey and Iran

It will eventually secede from Iraq and form a truly independent Kurdistan, which will encourage Kurdish areas in Turkey and Iran to attempt to join Kurdistan

Well, it looks like number 1 is already happening.

Illegal Immigration: Let the Distortion and Spin Commence

The issue of illegal immigration (how big a problem, how to stop it in the future, what to do about the illegals here now) deserves some serious discussion.  It impacts everything from the American wage structure to the prices of many goods to the conscience and morals of the country.

What the issue doesn't need?  Nonsense like this from the Associated Press.

Science With Six Two: ANWR Ain't No Answer

If one is to listen to the likes of El Oxycondo, and the rest of the neofascists, the answer to our prayers is to start drilling in Alaska...
