Let's play What's Wrong With This Picture!Just a cute and short, nasty, of course, take on some recent news, and after the break, we'll play! What Attracts the Racists to Ron Paul?Okay, let's accept for the moment that Dr. Ron Paul, candidate for the Republican nomination for President, is not, was not, and will not be a racist on the personal level. I'm willing to accept the word of the head of the NAACP branch in Austin, TX to that effect. Let's also accept that such candidates are not personally responsible for which groups of people choose to support them. That still leaves me with the question, "Exactly why is it that so many racists find Paul such an attractive candidate?" Ron Paul and the Electability QuestionDuring last night's South Carolina Republican debate, Fox News moderators were tough on Rep. Ron Paul, most notably when journalist Carl Cameron asked him an incredibly derisive question. Was NH voting e-hacked? Brad and Paul supporters want to know!According to e-voting critic Brad Friedman over at Bradblog, even the MSM is having problems "buying" into how exit poll data...and actual results..don't appear to match. Are we looking at Ohio again, mmmm? Rather VS CBS-Paramount: Are we go for discovery?Aha! Neat! Seems a judge said that the lawsuit between former CBS anchor Dan Rather and his former employer, CBS may begin...well, somewhat, that is.... Ron Paul's Newsletters Bite His BacksideIf everyone does, indeed, have a cross to bear, copies of old newsletters bearing his name may turn out to be Ron Paul's political cross. The New Republic (TNR) web site offers "Selections From Ron Paul's Newsletters", which provide a hell of a different view of the folksy Dr. Paul than he offers up in media interviews--racist, anti-gay, and the usual far right lunacy. It also offers up an article by James Kirchick on the background, how he found the newsletters, etc. More Joy of SlaveryAdele Fergusen, meet Michael Patrick Carroll. The former found the pony in slavery ("The pony hidden in slavery is the fact that it was the ticket to America for black people"), the latter, a Republican Assemblyman in New Jersey, simply thinks that "if slavery was the price that a modern American's ancestors had to pay in order to make one an American, one should get down on one's knees every single day and thank the Lord that such price was paid." Nonbelievers Unpopular in America, But We're Gaining on 'EmAs the realtors say, location! Location! Location! For the Economy, The Hole is the Sum of Its PartsVerbatim excerpts from minutes of the Federal Reserve's Open Market Committee held on December 11, 2007: Good news, bad news, and I'm still scared, yesWellsiree Bob, the Iowans (why does that sound like an alien race on a planet orbiting Tau Ceti?) cast their votes, and we now have the beginnings of a real mess. Some of the news is quite surprising. Some ain't the least bit surprising in the least..... |
