As one of the "old farts" of the firm, a young person approached me today and asked, "What's causing these banks to go bust?"

I made such a face. "Do you understand how a helicopter can move laterally?"

"No."

I snort. "The helicopter issue is much easier....."

Let us begin as follows, let's go back a few pieces to this one I wrote, which suggested a major bank was going to implode.

During the first four years that Sarah Palin was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, the town's police department charged women who had been raped with the cost of "rape kits," the $300 to $1,200 exams necessary to collect evidence of the sex assault.

Here's a nice example of the thimble-deep thinking that passes for political journalism in the mainstream media these days. On ABC News, journalists Jake Tapper and Matt Jaffe mock Joe Biden for giving a substantive answer to a reporter's question about whether he still supports a tripartite solution to divide Iraq into separate Kurd, Shia and Sunni areas.

Boy, you have to hand it to the GOP. Do they ever know outrage, or what? Outrage, I say, pure, unadulterated, unforgivable outrage!!!!!!!

Back in February, the British press ripped Matt Drudge for revealing a secret they'd been keeping: Prince Harry was stationed in Afghanistan, deployed with the British Army in Helmand Province. The secret had gotten out in an obscure Australian magazine and German's Bild newspaper, and Drudge passed the news along to his audience of millions. Brits were so outraged that they mistakenly started sending me a flood of hate mail. Given this, it's worth noting that the British press is now putting another high-profile soldier in danger by reporting details of his service in a war zone.

Now the truth slowly leaks out: Gov Palin's nod to become McSame's VP candidate comes not out of the blue...

But from the dark side......!

Sarah Palin's either going to turn out to be the boldest vice presidential choice in American history or the worst. So little is known about the charismatic and unseasoned Alaska governor that the next 70 days will be a massive public version of This is Your Life, much of which will be a total surprise to the McCain campaign. There are numerous media reports that Palin and her family were not comprehensively vetted prior to her selection as running mate.

That's not me talking, folks, that's the editorial page of yesterday's Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. So, continuing the "all Palin" theme here, let's think about that.
