The current crop of Republicans is very skilled at exactly one thing: smears and deception.  They can't govern an ant hill, but they sure could deceive the ants into attacking the Queen.

Ken Mehlman, the head of the RNC (either the Republican National Committee or the Relentless Namecalling Chowderheads, I forget which) has now figured out how to virtually Swiftboat Dems on gas prices.

Where does the right wing outrage factory find all these reporter wannabes?  One after another, often with backgrounds in the military, or law enforcement, or....gay prostitution.

The AP reports that the former head of the Kansas GOP has recently switched affiliation to the Democratic Party, which is assumed to be in preparation for becoming the running mate of the current Democratic Governor in her reelection bid.

You already know about Bob Jones University and it's place in the Christian firmament.  Now comes another Bob Jones to make life miserable for all the other people in the world with that common name.

I'm sure it's too simple and common sensical for our Republican leaders to comprehend, but should it be surprising that countries with a "national health" plan turn out to be "healthy nations," at least compared to the U.S.?

That's literally what our esteemed Supreme Court held today, in a 5-4 decision that allows employers to take adverse actions against employees who spill the beans.

What better time than Memorial Day to remember what veterans have done for America?  And what better time to remember what America has done to veterans?

It certainly was good news that the Houston jury had the good sense to convict Ken Lay on all counts and Jeff Skilling on most counts.

In a fitting irony, the sentencing is set for 9/11/06, exactly five years after you know what, with Lay facing a maximum of 165 years in prison and Skilling looking at a maximum of 185 years.

But I think it's important to point out that the mindset and ethical standards that allow Enron's debacle to occur, and which fed the Global Crossing and WorldCom disasters, is the problem; Lay & Skilling are just the symptoms.

Being a rather snarky cynic at times, socialist and all-around wiseacre, there are times I especially take such perverted delight in four little words..."I told you so!"

Some time back, I got into a pretty heated argument with some associates who attempt to pass themselves off as, ahem, Christians.

Yeahright....

You've undoubtedly heard the White House budget refrain: "We have to tighten our belts on discretionary spending."  Or the equally high-minded: "We must eliminate or reduce programs that are ineffective or duplicative."

Well check out this example of a program deemed ineffective, all while extending those wonderful tax cuts for the benefit of everyone....in the top 10% of income, anyway.
