God v. Monkeys

Lee Salisbury published a piece in the Axis of Logic July 13th called Monkeys are preferable as ancestors over the bible?s God anytime!

In this very cogent and stark comparison between monkeys and God, Salisbury gets to the heart of the matter using the very tools used to "prove" Christianity as the more moral path than evolution: the Bible.

Sidney Blumenthal Takes Apart the Bullshit

Salon's Sidney Blumenthal has written THE piece on the Plame affair. The article is available here (daypass required -- well worth it).

Jim Bob's Foreign Policy: Shoot first, ....... dern.

Got this from the AP .

It seems the insurgents in Iraq are burning money, now. More after the cut.

We're Moving, ugh the pain of a move

Me and my little family are heading out west week after next, going to live in an "undisclosed location" far, far away from our northeastern digs.

What a pain in the dick this is. We have no money, I've had to stop taking on big jobs in my programming company so that I can move us, and we've just barely managed to scrape enough together to maybe pay our deposit on the new place.

This is a fucking nightmare. I'm usually more positive in my personal life, but I have to admit to having a real sense of frustration over this. We've been planning this move for two months, but things never go as planned, as we all know.

Now I'm stressing, and I know it will all work out, but I can't see how. To top it off I am having professional problems, but those will work themselves out after the move.

This sucks.

Woe is me, woe is me. ;)

Iraqi Blogger Abducted

Via Riverbend, Iraqi blogger (and, therefore, free speech activist) Khalid Jarrar has been abducted by the Mukhabarat, Iraq's intelligence service. The name has an understandably negative connotation, because it served as Saddam's secret police, but Khalid's brother Raed explains why it beats the alternatives.

Can Rove Be Impeached?

The Brad Blog has just reported that Congressman John Conyers and Senator Barney Frank sent a letter to the Library of Congress' Congressional Research Service to clarify whether or not Karl Rove qualifies as a civil officer who may be impeached.

Santorum's Director of Communications is Gay

From the best Gay News Source on the planet, PageOneQ, we learn that Senator Rick Santorum's Director of Communications, Robert Traynham, is gay.

How does a gay man work for the most anti-gay Senator in the United States, a staunch opponent of gay rights issues and a strong supporter of the Federal Marriage Amendment, which seeks to define marriage as only between a man and a woman?

In Mr. Traynham's own words:

"Senator Santorum is a man of principle, he is a man who sticks up for what he believes in, I strongly do support Senator Santorum."

According to Mike Rogers, an attempt to follow up with another question caused Traynham to hang up the phone.

So why? I mean come on, why? How the hell do you support someone who thinks you are less of a person than he or any other straight person is? How do you support a man who thinks you're going to his mythical "hell" for the way you live your life?

Rush in a Tizzy! And BradBlog Scoops the AP!

Brad Friedman of The Brad Blog is at it again, pulling up rocks and watching Republicans scurry out from underneath.

In an article this afternoon, Brad takes Rush to task for his comments that a "left wing conspiracy", masterminded by the DNC and Wilson, is responsible for the whole Plame affair:

The "theory" that Rush has been pummelling his Ditto Heads with all day: Joe Wilson has been a part of a double super secret background conspiracy with the DNC since day one, well before he was sent by the CIA to Niger.

Yes, that's right. According to Rush, the entire plan to send George W. Bush's own father's Man in Iraq -- a decades-long expert in African and Middle-Eastern affairs to Niger -- was all just a ploy by Democrats "to undermine the War in Iraq and the Bush Presidency," as Rush repeatedly described it.

We suppose then, that Bush 41's letter sent to Wilson saying that he concurred with much of the article that Wilson wrote prior to the war in the San Jose Mercury News was also part of that conspiracy.

Why is Dubya's own father trying to destroy Dubya's own "Presidency", dammit?!

You really have to read the whole thing, it's an excellent dissection of Rush's latest idiocy.

In other news, Brad Scooped the AP (again), in reporting Joe Wilson's calling for Rove to be fired by the administration.

A move that we at Watching The Watchers think would be sanctioned by any administration that cared about national security for real, rather than just gave it lip service to get re-elected.

Kerry and Edwards Gearing Up For Another Bid?

From the Raw Story:

Two of the Democrats most often mentioned as contenders for the White House in 2008 are currently paying staff to work for local candidates in New Hampshire, home of the nation?s first presidential primary, the paid-restricted Roll Call reports Thursday. Excerpts follow -- Kerry and Edwards spokespersons say it doesn't necessarily indicate a presidential bid, though experts say the move is a "fairly big step."

Well, I know we all supported Kerry in 2004 out of soidarity against Bush, but I was thinking maybe we could have someone this time that we actually WANTED to be president run.
